Itinerary

Day 1 & 2

Perched above the River Ebro and set within the historic La Suda Castle, the Parador de Tortosa enjoys a commanding position over this fascinating town. Tortosa’s centre is filled with well-preserved architecture from multiple eras, including medieval, Renaissance, Baroque and modernist influences — best discovered on foot.

Highlights include the Gothic Cathedral, the Episcopal Palace, and of course the castle itself, now home to the Parador. Nearby, the Ebro Delta is particularly popular with birdwatchers, while a short drive north brings you to the coastal city of Tarragona, known for its impressive Roman heritage and seaside setting.

Optional highlights along the route:
As you continue south, we recommend a stop at the spectacular Peñíscola, where the famous Papa Luna Castle sits dramatically at the tip of a crescent-shaped beach. The town is also well known as a filming location for El Cid, starring Charlton Heston.

Day 3 & 4

Located just south of Valencia, the Parador de El Saler sits between the Mediterranean Sea and the surrounding natural landscape, near the rice fields that produce the region’s world-famous paella ingredients.

The Parador features one of Spain’s most renowned golf courses, regularly hosting national and international tournaments, and enjoys a relaxing setting with open views and easy access to the beach.

From here, you can enjoy:

  • A day trip into Valencia, with its lively historic centre, cathedral, and modern City of Arts and Sciences
  • A quieter escape into nature with the nearby Albufera Natural Park, offering peaceful walks, boat trips and beautiful scenery

Day 5

Your final night is spent on one of the most attractive stretches of Spain’s Mediterranean coast. This region benefits from some of the best and most consistent weather year-round, meaning seaside promenades and coastal restaurants remain active even during much of the off-season.

The Parador de Jávea enjoys a wonderfully relaxed beachfront setting, ideal for an easy final evening. With scenic coastal walks, sea views and a charming atmosphere, it’s a superb way to end the journey.

Nearby coastal towns and points of interest include fishing villages and small resorts such as Gandia, home to the Ducal Palace, and a selection of coastal dining spots perfect for a final meal by the sea.
